How Remem works

Record or type what matters, add a place when it helps, and Remem saves it as a pin you can find on a map or in a searchable list.

The short version

Remem is a local-first place-based memory app. You choose when to capture. A saved memory is called a pin. It can include captured or typed text, an optional location, a category, notes, photos and a retained recording when available.

You do not need an account for local capture, photos, the map or the list. Local features remain usable offline. Some supporting services—such as online speech recognition, remote address lookup, sign-in and purchases—need a connection.

Step 1

Capture the reason

Start a recording in Remem when you want to save something, or type a note instead. Remem is not designed around an always-listening background microphone. The capture begins only after your action.

Speech recognition may use the phone’s Apple or Google speech service. Audio can be processed online when on-device recognition is unavailable. The saved text can be reviewed and edited.

Step 2

Add context when it helps

If you allow foreground location, Remem can attach the place where you saved the pin and show your position on the map. Location is optional: a pin can be saved without it.

You can add a category, a separate Notes field and up to 10 photos. Photos selected for a pin are copied into Remem’s private local storage on the device.

For a place name, Remem tries the phone’s native service first. If that cannot find an address, an eligible remote lookup may send coordinates rounded to four decimal places to OpenCage through Remem’s service. That remains precise location data. Recordings, photos and note text are not sent for an address lookup.

Step 3

Save it as a pin

Remem stores the pin on this device. Local saving does not require a Remem account. The pin remains available locally unless it is deleted, the app’s storage is cleared, the app is removed without a recoverable device backup, or the device is lost or damaged.

Current backup position Encrypted cloud backup and restore are not enabled in this release. Signing in alone does not upload your pins, recordings, photos or note text. Read the backup status page before relying on Remem for recovery.

Step 4

Find it on Map or List

Use Map to browse pins by place. Use List to search and sort saved pins. Opening a pin lets you review or edit its details, share it, and navigate when it has a saved location.

Step 5

Share or export what you need

A single pin can be shared with its details and selected photos. From Settings, available Premium export options create either a CSV spreadsheet file or a GPX map file from unarchived pins.

Those formats contain different information and neither is a full Remem backup. The technical local-data download is different again: it is a private data copy for inspection, not a file Remem can restore.

What signing in changes

Signing in is optional. It creates or reconnects a Remem account and can link eligible Premium access to that identity. It does not make local capture dependent on an account, and it does not currently create a recoverable copy of local memories.

Remem uses passwordless email-link sign-in when email is chosen. Google or Facebook sign-in may appear only when those production methods are configured and available in the installed release.
